Those not intimately familiar with TransFormers may wonder why some fans call the originals Generation 1. The simple reason is, a few years after the initial line ended, Hasbro tried to relaunch the line as TransFormers: Generation 2, hence the retroactive naming.

Generation 2 was interesting; the toyline began as mostly re-released G1 toys with gaudy decorations, and had two media tie-ins: The first was a comic book from Marvel, which was a darker, grittier successor to the original Marvel comic. It was canceled after 12 issues.

The other was a cartoon, which was just the original cartoon re-aired with almost no new work put into it, so almost no one looked like the toys– to a degree even worse than before. For example, in the cartoon, Megatron still turned into a gun, while the toy turned into a tank. Additionally, the faction symbols were inexplicably changed for G2, but in the cartoon, they remained the same. This was especially evident by the one thing they did bother to add: The Cybernet Space Cube, which was a greater nuisance than an enhancement.

Since really, there was no actual “Generation 2” cartoon, some people on YouTube have taken it upon themselves to make their own. Splicing and recoloring footage from various entries in the animated fiction, including some of the Japanese series, plus the addition of new (to say nothing of convincing) voicework, here is the latest fruit of their labor. But be warned, it does have a bit of language.

If I’m not mistaken, DRSMOOV of The Rude Awakening of Optimus Prime (also NSFW; language) fame, may have helped with the voices.

All said, it’s an interesting, amusing experiment.
