Hey, remember that song by that Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles stage band, “Tubin’?”

…anybody?

Er, um. Right. *coughs* Me neither…

Anyway, been checking out YouTube a bit more, and some interesting stuff has come up.? And since there’s enough interesting stuff on the site in question, I figured I’d start a new category for it called “Tubin’.”

  1. First up is an Inside Edition story from 1988 about the Nintendo Entertainment System and Mario.

“This video has it all. Its got Howard Phillips in an interview, and even has a Nintendo game counselor, who has been featured in early issues of Nintendo Powers Q&A section.”

Definitely harkens back to a simpler, more blissful time. At least for me, anyway. Check it out for a fun five-minute look into the past when people might still say “what’s a Nintendo?”

Incidently, regarding the issue of the Marios’ names, I believe this was just before the debut of the Super Mario Bros. Super Show, which first had their last names as Mario. Perhaps this inspired that?

  2. Next up is this seven-minute video of differences between the Japanese and US versions of Zelda II.

The biggest difference I notice is that in Japan, ALL the palaces look the same. I appreciate the different textures and designs uses for the US version.

Another difference(the full list, not counting the palace tiles, is on the right when you ‘click more’) the boss roars, which I wish they’d kept for the US version.

And perhaps as an apology for the delay in its release, our version got a unique extra boss added in the form of Gooma, the big white guy with the spiked ball. Though they took out Horsehead at a later point, as noted.

Some of the music and sounds seem a bit different, too. It’d be cool if we could get this on Virtual Console, or some kind of hybrid.

  3. The Angry Nintendo Nerd is back and spewing venom once again, as he goes after one of my first NES games(or perhaps more accurately, my parents’?), Top Gun for the NES.

Bafflingly(is that a word? Well, it is now. They all gotta start somewhere), he also checks out Master Chu and the Drunken Hu.

A confused review by the Angry Video Game Nerd (a.k.a. The Angry Nintendo Nerd) with special guest host Shit Pickle from Wizard of Oz 3: Dorothy Goes to Hell.

This game makes you just wonder … ?????

To round things off, there’s Double Dragon III and a special treat, The Anger Begins, showing how it all started back in 1988.

  4. And finally, YouTube has some… er… interesting “reviews” of Super Mario Bros. For the NES.

Episode 2 of Awesome Video Games features two of the dumbest characters since Beavis and Butt-head trying to learn the ropes of this game that came with their new system. It’s amusing in a simple sort of way.

Episode 3 is here, and they finally get to Duck Hunt in Episode 4.

That’s all for now, and if you see something on YouTube(or Google Video) that looks interesting, drop me a line in the Submission link over on your left there.
